Acceptable use policy

Purpose
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") defines the acceptable use of Scamhound's email scam detection service (the "Service"). This policy protects Scamhound, our users, and the broader internet community from irresponsible or illegal use of the Service.
By using Scamhound, you agree to comply with this AUP. Violations may result in suspension or termination of your account without refund.
General principles
When using Scamhound, you must:
- Use the Service for legitimate scam detection purposes
- Respect the privacy and rights of others
- Comply with all applicable laws and regulations
- Act in good faith and with integrity
- Use resources responsibly and fairly
Permitted uses
Email analysis
- Analyse suspicious emails you have personally received
- Check emails before responding to uncertain requests
- Learn about scam tactics and improve your email security awareness
- Track your history of scam encounters
- Protect yourself and your organization from fraud
Educational purposes
- Understand how scams work
- Train yourself or employees on email security
- Research scam trends and patterns
- Share general scam awareness information
Personal protection
- Verify legitimacy of emails from unknown senders
- Check emails that request sensitive information
- Analyse emails with urgent or threatening language
- Identify phishing attempts before clicking links
Prohibited uses
1. Illegal activities
You may not use Scamhound to:
- Submit emails containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
- Submit emails containing illegal content under applicable law
- Facilitate or promote illegal activities
- Violate export control or sanctions laws
- Engage in fraud, money laundering, or financial crimes
- Violate intellectual property rights
- Engage in cybercrime or hacking activities
2. Abuse and harm
You may not:
- Submit emails to harass, threaten, or intimidate others
- Use the Service to spam, phish, or scam others
- Submit malware, viruses, or malicious code
- Attempt to harm, disrupt, or compromise the Service
- Interfere with other users' access to the Service
- Use the Service to stalk, dox, or invade privacy
- Submit hate speech or content that promotes violence
3. Privacy violations
You may not:
- Submit emails belonging to others without permission
- Forward private or confidential communications without authorization
- Submit emails containing others' private information without consent
- Violate any person's privacy rights
- Access or attempt to access another user's account
- Share login credentials or allow unauthorized access
4. System abuse
You may not:
- Circumvent or bypass usage limits or restrictions
- Use automated scripts, bots, or tools to submit emails
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or hack the Service
- Probe, scan, or test vulnerabilities without permission
- Overwhelm our systems with excessive requests
- Create multiple accounts to evade limits
- Use the Service to mine cryptocurrency or conduct distributed computing
5. Commercial misuse
You may not:
- Resell or redistribute the Service without authorization
- Use the Service commercially without a commercial agreement
- Scrape, crawl, or index our Service without permission
- Frame or mirror our website without permission
- Represent our Service as your own
6. Deceptive practices
You may not:
- Impersonate others or misrepresent your identity
- Provide false information during registration
- Create fake or misleading accounts
- Manipulate our analysis results
- Falsely claim affiliation with Scamhound
7. Content restrictions
Do not submit emails containing:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
- Non-consensual intimate images
- Graphic violence or gore
- Instructions for creating weapons or explosives
- Content promoting self-harm or suicide
- Terrorist propaganda or recruitment materials
- Illegal drugs or controlled substances sales
Fair use guidelines
Even for paid users with "unlimited" access, we expect reasonable use.
Reasonable use means
- Analysing emails as you receive them organically
- Periodic checks of suspicious emails
- Training a small team on email security
- Occasional bulk analysis of historical emails
Unreasonable use means
- Analysing thousands of emails per hour
- Running automated submission systems
- Providing email analysis as a service to others
- Submitting the same email repeatedly
- Using the Service beyond normal human patterns
We monitor for unusual usage patterns. If we detect abuse:
- First offense: warning and temporary rate limiting
- Second offense: account suspension for review
- Third offense: account termination without refund
Enforcement
Monitoring
We may monitor use of the Service to detect violations, prevent fraud and abuse, protect system security and performance, comply with legal obligations, and improve the Service. We do not read the content of your emails for marketing purposes.
Violation reporting
If you become aware of violations of this AUP, report to [email protected] with relevant details (account, timestamp, description). Reports are confidential and we will investigate and take appropriate action.
Actions we may take
Minor violations: issue a warning, require corrective action, temporarily limit functionality, or provide educational guidance.
Moderate violations: suspend account pending investigation, require written acknowledgement of policies, implement permanent rate limits, or remove specific content or analysis.
Severe violations: immediately terminate account, ban from creating new accounts, report to law enforcement, pursue legal action, and cooperate with investigations. No refund of subscription fees.
Legal cooperation
We cooperate with law enforcement and legal authorities when:
- Required by law or valid legal process
- Necessary to prevent imminent harm
- Investigating violations of this AUP
- Protecting our rights or property
We may disclose user information without notice when legally required or to prevent serious harm.
Reporting illegal content
For child safety issues, report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children CyberTipline and to us at [email protected].
For other illegal content, report to [email protected] and to appropriate authorities in your jurisdiction.
User responsibilities
As a user, you are responsible for:
- Understanding and complying with this AUP
- Ensuring you have rights to submit emails for analysis
- Obtaining necessary permissions before sharing others' emails
- Securing your account credentials
- Monitoring activity on your account
- Reporting suspicious activity
- Complying with all applicable laws

Appeals process
If your account is suspended or terminated:
- Review the decision: We will email you explaining the violation
- Submit an appeal: Email [email protected] within 30 days
- Provide information: Explain your perspective and any mitigating circumstances
- We will review: Our team will reconsider the decision
- Final decision: You will receive our determination within 14 days
Appeals are not guaranteed to succeed. Our decisions are final.
Changes to this policy
We may update this AUP to address new risks, legal requirements, or service changes. Updates will be posted with a new "Last Updated" date. Material changes will be communicated via email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
This AUP should be read in conjunction with our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and AI Policy. In case of conflict, the Terms of Service govern.
